Finding the right words...

Hello there quilters and crafters!

After I took a little hiatus from writing on my blog, I have been constantly thinking about topics to write about and projects to show you all.  However, I keep talking myself out of them.  "I don't have the RIGHT tools to really show that topic well." "That project isn't perfect, so I don't know if I should show that on the blog."

Sitting down to a blank screen can be very intimidating.  I don't want to say things wrong or be unclear.  I don't want to be too cliché or corny or too impersonal either.  For some reason, finding the right words can be pretty difficult some days.

Reading previous posts and over-analyzing myself (as I tend to do) I found that I was trying TOO hard to find the right words.  They were words that helped a person understand, but not words that were inviting or friendly, or personal to me.  They were text-book boring!

I strive so hard to do the best I can and I want to put my best foot forward with my blog. So, I've decided to change things up a bit.  I want to write as though I'm writing to a friend and show you all the real me, and the real sewing projects, imperfections and all!

This is me!

Hello!
I grew up in Northern Minnesota and now live in West Central Wisconsin with my boyfriend of 8 years and our 5 year old German Shepherd, Blitz.  He's my buddy!

Blitz is a pretty smart dog and even knows that he's not supposed to step on quilts that are laid out on the floor.  When my friends' lab comes to visit though, he doesn't quite know the quilt rules.

I don't have any kids that keep me busy and running around, but I am definitely a workaholic! I have two full time seasonal jobs.  One for the summer, one for the winter.  I also help my boyfriend on a daily basis with the business that he owns.  Once all the real work and the housework is done, I get to carve out some time to sew and work on my own business.  It's a lot of work and a hectic life, but I love it!

My boyfriend has been encouraging me to put more time in to my own business.  (He is honestly my best marketer!)  His encouragement is why I have resurrected the blog, updated, my website, and am now preparing to start selling fabric and quilting supplies this summer!

Quilting and sewing are truly my passion. When I sit down at the sewing machine I just feel good!  I can push all the work stress aside and just focus on colors, patterns, and pretty prints!  I want to share that enjoyment with everyone and inspire them to get that same great feeling from sewing that I do!

I hope you enjoy the things that I create, and I hope that you will create some along with me!

I've enjoyed reading it so far and I'll add you to my reader list so I can blog stalk you (not is a creepy way though). :)

Long time comin'

I had hoped that I would have more energy to work while I have the house trailer to myself, but unfortunately that was not the case today.    After a slow start to the day and still a much needed nap, I was able to muster some energy and get to work sewing.   I am a quilter who always has a TON of UFO’s.   Sifting through half-done projects, I decided to start yet another one.   I decided to pull out a selection of fabric that I had purchased almost exactly a year ago and get to work on the quilt that I had designed with that line in mind.   These fabrics and this quilt have been on my mind for quite some time, so this one has certainly been a long time coming. The fabrics are from the “Serenity” line by Heather Mulder Peterson.   I absolutely love her designs! I have a good collection of her books and have really enjoyed every line of fabric she has put out for Henry Glass & Co.   “Serenity” is by far my favorite of her fabric lines though.   The colors are right up my a

Tori's Pillow

My boyfriend’s little sister had her 11 th birthday this week.   We’re taking her out to the movies tomorrow afternoon and I wanted to bring her something hand made with her birthday gift.   She’s already a crafty little girl and loves to make beaded bracelets and necklaces.   When I am there doing a little bit of hand work, she loves to watch me sew, too!   So, I picked up a little bracelet kit and a peace sign cross stitch kit that I plan on working on with her, as well as the first Harry Potter book.   She’s at the same age I was when I started reading those books and I hope she comes to love them as much as I do!     I debated for quite a while on what to make for her to add to her birthday gift.   I contemplated making a big floor cushion for her or a quillow for travelling on the volleyball bus next year.   Both of these would be great gifts and I will probably still make them for her soon, but I needed something quicker, smaller, and something that required little t

Creating a Blog Planner

I like to think I'm a pretty organized gal.  But with a busy life and lots of work, my mental best laid plans for blogging are quickly falling through the cracks. I ran across this great blog planner through Pinterest and I'm getting ready to give it a whirl!  The printables that Lamberts Lately  developed here are absolutely adorable and I can't wait to put them to use! Another awesome Pinterest find was this great tutorial from Just A Beautiful Life on to-do's and best practices for creating your own blogging binder. Between the great advice from both of these sites, I've got a start on my own blogging binder. I did a little office supply shopping (honestly, I love shopping for office supplies!) and picked up a cute colorful binder, some tab dividers, sheet protectors, loose leaf lined paper, and post it notes to put together with my freshly printed blog planning sheets. I have a three hole punch and nice markers at home to use already.  It was su
