Half Square Triangles

I have been working on half square triangles with my quilting group.  I finished mine HST quilt today and will be giving it to my sister next weekend for her birthday. I absolutely love the way it turned out.  It is perfect for her and I know she's going to love it!  I am also working on making a couple pillowcases to go with it in order to use up a few of my scraps from the project. 



I squared up all of my blocks and I am so glad that I did.  I am an impatient quilter and I just want to get to the final glorious product.  I know that this step is important but, it's long and boring.  However, the giant pile of trimmings from all of my blocks is all the evidence one should need in order to see the true importance of making sure your blocks are square.  I might have had a wonky quilt if I hadn't trimmed. 



I pretty much had to rearrange my living room in order to find enough floor space to lay this baby out.  It was definitely worth the hassle though. 


I found a really great purple print for the backing that I am so happy with!  The color and print are absolutely beautiful.  I bound it with a really rich purple-y/charcoal color.  I actually used two different fabrics in the same exact shade of this unique color and alternated the prints around the edge, just for a bit more variety.



The colors in this took a long time to match and a lot of driving around to different shops.  I'm glad that I took all that time to pick the right fabrics though.

 


 
I'm so glad I had some beautiful fall weather to be able to get outside and take some pictures.  I love this color combination.  I hope she does too!

    Katie! Send it to me :) This is so stunning and enormous!! I am also with you on the HST trimming and impatience...but your lovely finish shows how that made it so worthwhile!!! I am loving this!

Working on my PHD: Finished Flannel Hopscotch Quilt

I want to post some updates of the Flannel Hopscotch quilt that I finished this week.  It turned out great and I'm really happy with my new queen sized bed quilt.  I was able to finish hand sewing my binding during our down time this week.  The striped binding adds a lot of character to the edge of the quilt.  The quilt is very heavy and super warm!  I will definitely be using this on those cold nights this winter!  Now that this quilt has been completed and stored away, I've already brought out my next project half done to get wrapped up. I brought the start of an up north themed lap quilt to the local quilt shop and purchased some fabric for borders and binding.    I want the top to be bigger, but not a full bed quilt like the flannel hopscotch quilt. Creating a Blog Planner

I like to think I'm a pretty organized gal.  But with a busy life and lots of work, my mental best laid plans for blogging are quickly falling through the cracks. I ran across this great blog planner through Pinterest and I'm getting ready to give it a whirl!  The printables that Lamberts Lately  developed here are absolutely adorable and I can't wait to put them to use! Another awesome Pinterest find was this great tutorial from Just A Beautiful Life on to-do's and best practices for creating your own blogging binder. Between the great advice from both of these sites, I've got a start on my own blogging binder. I did a little office supply shopping (honestly, I love shopping for office supplies!) and picked up a cute colorful binder, some tab dividers, sheet protectors, loose leaf lined paper, and post it notes to put together with my freshly printed blog planning sheets. I have a three hole punch and nice markers at home to use already...

Mail Sack Bags!

My sister is a great sounding board when I want to talk about what to make at craft shows.  She's not a sewist herself, but she has great fashion and style and loves to shop at craft shows! So she suggested a bit ago that I should make some cross body bags that are a little smaller than the regular size ones I already make.  So I took her advice!  The first cross body bag that I made ever was for myself a few years ago. I still use it for my daily use purse. The pattern that I used was the Mail Sack Bag from Pink Chalk Studio.  After making that one, I started designing a bag that was more me, and would be cute to sell at craft shows.  When I decided to make some bags in a new size I went right back to that pattern and got started.  They are a great pattern company and luckily are happy if people are interested in making their bag to sell in small quantities at craft shows.  So this week I whipped up four new bags.  ...
